The Singer
The passion of misguided fools
Lead Vocals and Guitar.
Jim – Jimmy D – Gobbie
Whatever the name the passion doesn’t change.
I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember, school choir, church choir, shower wherever and whenever it happens.
Taught myself guitar at around 16 when I joined my first band a 50’ & 60’s covers band, with lots of fun and easy songs to play.
I really cut my teeth when myself and Colin (Web Centre Plus) got together to form Break the Ice.
2 piece band using sequencers, keyboards and guitars to cover more up-to-date 80’s songs.
This was something new and we became incredibly busy in a very short time, out gigging every weekend sometimes 4 nights in a weekend and working full time, still not sure how we survived and I know we had weekends with only a couple of hours sleep.
We had top-of-the-range equipment and a mentality that never said no.
Almost making it to the top we played with some great famous old acts such as Right Said Fred, Sister Sledge, Toyah Wilcox, ELO, Odyssey and many others, finally calling it a day after a very successful tour and festival where we ignored Keith Chegwin, may he rest in peace (a long story).
I then joined a 10-piece show band for a short while, and performed a one-off charity concert under the name Gobbie Williams, doing Robbie numbers, this led to many bookings and once again I was out gigging but this time on my own using professionally made backing tracks, performing all sorts from the 80’s onwards and getting quite a following in the area, people still sometimes shout Gobbie when they see me.
Don’t know the actual figures but I would say I have performed thousands of gigs over the years and absolutely loved it, I’ve been quiet for a few years now so think it’s time to dust off my shiny shoes and get to it, looking forward to making a fool of myself for years to come.
